- i always thought my skin smelled like my mother's, and her skin smelled like her mother's, and the line of mothers trailed behind them like ants picking there way through gravel, until there was eve, naked, then clothed, hiding her skin from sun kisses, breathing the warm tones, wondering if her maker chose the scent from delicate bottles or if she smelled like the inside of a man with one rib missing
